Oak tree, spring sun & shadows,

Covid-19 Lockdown painting:-
We are lucky to have a wonderful old oak tree in our garden. In spring it is surrounded by daffodils (now over) and then bluebells - out now. It's a favourite spot and for years I have wanted to do a spring painting of this old tree. I decided this year was the perfect time. I waited for the bluebells to fully open and while gardening I made sure to watch and see how the light fell on the tree through the day and I decided to try and capture the mid-afternoon light which produced superb shadows on the trunk and limbs.

Because of the intricacy that I wanted to capture, it needed 2 sessions (the various stages are shown on my Facebook page if you are interested) and luckily the weather was perfect to finish it today. It was such a pleasure to be out there in the spring sun with all the bluebells in flower, observing and enjoying nature.

Size: 30cm x 40cm, oil on board.
